AUTHENTIC JERSEY WORN BY THE '57 MEXICO CITY RED DEVILS

History: The team has been known by many simply as Mexico. The Red Devils (Diablos Rojos) have historically been the Mexican national equivalent of the New York Yankees in terms of great players and championships won.

Jorge Pascual, founder of the Mexican League challenged Major League Baseball for talent, offering major league and Negro league players better money than their American clubs were playing. Newark Eagles third-sacker Ray Dandridge (#3) spent nine years in the Mexican League starting with Veracruz in 1940. Cleveland Indians GM Bill Veeck tried to entice Dandridge into coming to Cleveland, but Dandridge declined, favoring his situation in Mexico. The honor of integrating the American League went instead to Larry Doby. In 1948 Dandridge returned to the Negro leagues to play for and manage the New York Cubans at the end of their existence.
